B1 French Exam Preparation for Life in France

At B1, you need to do more than recognise familiar words. You need to explain an experience, express an opinion and keep a conversation going. We’ll prepare for your chosen exam while building the French that helps you take a fuller part in life here.

What B1 preparation helps you do

B1 is the language level required for certain resident card applications from 2026. It is also a meaningful step for someone who wants to take part in longer conversations, make arrangements, understand the point of an article or explain a point of view. We connect exam work to the situations that matter to you.

Explain and respond

Build an answer, give a reason and handle follow-up questions without relying on a memorised speech.

Read and listen with confidence

Find the main idea and supporting details in longer messages and recordings.

Write a clear message

Organise your ideas for the written tasks in your chosen exam and for everyday communication.

Choose the B1 exam that fits your goal

B1 is a level. DELF B1, TCF IRN and TEF IRN are different assessments. Before committing to one, confirm which proof your own procedure accepts and check the available dates at an approved test centre.

DELF B1

A diploma valid for life. The preparation focuses on the DELF B1 tasks and assessment criteria.

TCF IRN

A time-limited attestation of your current French level. We practise its specific oral and written tasks.

TEF IRN

A test with its own format and timing. We build language skills and rehearse the tasks you will actually face.

A focused plan, built around your deadline

Your lessons start with a realistic picture of your four skills. We decide where exam practice will help most, and where stronger everyday French needs to come first. You receive feedback you can use between lessons, not a pile of exercises without direction.

Know your starting point

A short diagnostic shows where you are already communicating well and where the exam may expose gaps.

Practise actively

Speak, write, listen and read with targeted tasks. We return to recurring difficulties rather than starting over each lesson.

Rehearse and refine

Timed practice shows what to work on before your exam date. We adjust the plan as you progress.

Learn with Feel Good French

At Feel Good French, Déborah, Olivia, Margot and Claudia teach adults who are moving to France and those already living here. We work around your project and your available time. If B1 is part of a residence application, we can help you prepare your French and exam technique. Check the official requirements for your own case.

Questions you may have

Is B1 now required for French citizenship?

For naturalisation and certain other nationality procedures, the language requirement rose to B2 in 2026. B1 remains the stated level for a resident card. Confirm the rules for your own procedure before choosing an exam.

Can I prepare for B1 if my skills are uneven?

Yes. It is common to feel stronger in one skill than another. We assess each skill separately and build a plan around the gaps that matter for your chosen exam.

Does B1 preparation include the civic exam?

The civic exam is a separate assessment. We can discuss both needs, but the lesson plan for a language test and the plan for the civic QCM are different.
